Description
Jerez de la Frontera is the largest city in the province of Cádiz and is also home to one of the most famous designations of origin in the world, «Jerez – Xérès – Sherry». It is home to the headquarters of the regulatory council of Jerez wine, which also has two other fairly important and well-known designations of origin, “Manzanilla – Sanlúcar de Barrameda” and “Jerez Vinegar”.
The relationship of Jerez with wine goes back more than 3,000 years, as there are documents from the 1st century BC attributing the first vines to the Phoenicians, coinciding with the founding of Gades, today's Cádiz.
On this guided visit to the Jerez wineries we will visit one of the city's main wine temples, Gonzalez Byass. Also known by many as “Tío Pepe”, founded in 1835, the winery is located right in the centre of Jerez, next to the Cathedral and the Alcázar, making it one of the landmarks for visitors.
During the tour, which lasts an hour and a half, accompanied by an official local guide, we will explore the different areas of the beautiful and historic estate where the winery is located. Its gardens and halls today host many events in Jerez, such as conferences, weddings and communions.
As we walk through the different rooms where the casks are stored, we will learn about the production process of the different wines made here, with its unique system in the world of “solera and criadera”, and of course, to complete the visit, we can enjoy a tasting of the most representative wines of this authentic cathedral of wine in Jerez.
Enjoy!
