We know that Seville is lived like nowhere else, but when the thermometer hits 40 degrees, even the most devoted Sevillian dreams of the Atlantic breeze. If you've already read our article on 3 beaches less than 1 hour away for a day trip and your body is asking you to explore new horizons, you're in the right place.
We've put together the definitive list. Grab your parasol and cool box, because here you have 12 coastal paradises just a stone's throw from the capital, split between our beloved coasts of Huelva and Cádiz. Let's go!
📍 Heading to the Huelva Coast (Light and Nature)
The Huelva coast is synonymous with miles of fine sand, endless sunsets and wild nature.
1. Mazagón: Postcard-Perfect Cliffs
Just over an hour away, Mazagón offers almost 13 kilometres of protected coastline. Its main attraction is the impressive cliffs and dunes rising above the sand. It's perfect for those who want space and don't want to be stuck next to a neighbour's towel.
2. Los Enebrales Natural Area (Punta Umbría)
Just before entering the bustle of Punta Umbría, this wonder is hidden away. To reach the sand you cross beautiful wooden walkways that run through a lush forest of pines, junipers and savins. Nature in its purest form.
3. Cuesta Maneli (Doñana)
If you're looking for a wild beach and don't mind walking, this is your pick. Located in the heart of Doñana National Park (between Matalascañas and Mazagón), it takes about a 20-minute walk along a wooden boardwalk over the dunes. At the end, the reward: a huge, almost untouched and very peaceful beach.
4. La Flecha del Rompido and El Portil
A whim of nature. La Flecha is a tongue of white sand growing parallel to the coast. You can cross by little boat from El Rompido or enjoy the calm waters of the El Portil lagoon. Ideal for going with children or trying paddle surf.
5. Punta Umbría (Urban Beach)
If you prefer having a beach bar right on hand, the urban area of Punta Umbría is the classic summer destination for thousands of Sevillians. Plenty of atmosphere, excellent facilities and Calle Ancha, perfect for a stroll and an ice cream as the evening falls.
6. Islantilla
For those seeking comfort and premium services. Islantilla is a carefully planned development bordering Lepe and Isla Cristina. It has one of the cleanest and best-equipped seafronts on the entire Andalusian coast.
7. Isla Canela (Ayamonte)
Fancy getting close to the Portuguese border? In Ayamonte you'll find this very long beach with slightly cooler waters, perfect for kitesurfing and windsurfing fans. The sunsets here, with the Algarve in the background, are magical.
📍 Heading to the Cádiz Coast (Salt, Wind and Tapas)
If you prefer slightly wilder waters, a surfer vibe and unbeatable tapas, we set the GPS south.
8. Chipiona (Regla Beach)
The hometown of Rocío Jurado has a special charm. Its Regla Beach is famous for its iodine-rich waters (super healthy!) and for being watched over by the imposing Chipiona Lighthouse, the tallest in Spain. A perfect plan for families.
9. Costa Ballena and Rota
Between Chipiona and Rota lies the Costa Ballena complex, with spotless beaches, cycle lanes and landscaped areas. If you want more authenticity, head to La Costilla Beach, in the centre of Rota, and don't leave without trying its famous “arranque roteño”.
10. Las Redes and Vistahermosa (El Puerto de Santa María)
If Valdelagrana (which we recommended in our other article) feels too crowded, cross to the other side of El Puerto. Las Redes and Vistahermosa offer a more chill atmosphere, ideal for watching the sunset with the Bay of Cádiz in the background.
11. Cádiz City (La Victoria and Cortadura)
Swimming in “La Tacita de Plata” is always a pleasure. La Playa de la Victoria is considered one of the best urban beaches in Europe. And if you keep driving towards the edge of the city, you'll reach Cortadura, a wild dune beach that will make you forget you're next to a capital.
12. Conil de la Frontera (Los Bateles)
Although it's a bit further away (about 1h 30min), Conil is the mecca of young Sevillian summer. Los Bateles beach is huge and, when the wind picks up, it fills with surf kites. The perfect plan ends with dinner on bluefin tuna from the almadraba in the whitewashed streets of the old town.
