Just outside San Nicolás del Puerto, the Huéznar River plunges over steps of limestone tufa, creating a string of small cascades among alders, ashes and poplars. It is a Natural Monument and one of the coolest spots in the Sierra Norte.
Beside the river’s source there is a recreation area, and nearby the Vía Verde de la Sierra Norte runs along, an old mining railway line that today can be walked or ridden by bike.
