Rain was definitely not the companion you were hoping for when you planned your visit to Seville over the Holy Week long weekend, but spring has these things, and as the saying goes, “rain in Seville is a wonder”… even these days.
We're going to give you a few recommendations so that, even in bad weather, you can make the most of Seville's Old Town these days. Take note!
See the floats in their churches: once the Brotherhoods have completed their penance procession, or if they haven't been able to hold it due to weather, they open their doors to visitors. It's a unique opportunity to get close to those centuries-old sculptures and enjoy their details in a much more intimate way than in the street.
Enjoy a flamenco show: Seville has many venues where you can enjoy this art form that is loved both inside and outside our country. Visit Los Gallos in the heart of the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, where you can also stroll its streets, which still have a special charm even in the rain, or the Patio Sevillano, a pioneer in showing this art in Seville.
Gastronomy: surely one of the reasons you decided to come to Seville was its famous tapas. Well, cheer up: the rain won't just not stop you enjoying them, it will also mean the bars in the centre are less crowded. The range on offer is as wide as your desire to enjoy and try. From traditional bars such as El Rinconcillo, Seville's oldest, to any of the new businesses betting on innovative, top-quality tapas.
Cinemas: in the centre we have both the Cervantes cinema (a former theatre), one of the most beautiful in the capital, and the Avenida 5 cinemas, where you can watch films in their original version.
Museum of Fine Arts: one of the country's largest art galleries can be a great option on rainy days. A walk through the works of Velázquez or Murillo is always worthwhile.
Museum of Illusions: located at number 28 Calle San Eloy, it's a perfect choice if you're travelling with children. In this interactive and educational museum, fun is guaranteed. You'll surely have a great family day out.
Seville's old town holds secrets and wonders that the rain cannot overshadow. Each of these places invites you to live a different experience, enriching your Holy Week with culture, history and beauty. Don't let the weather stop you; Seville in the rain has its own special charm, waiting to be discovered.
