Itálica was the first Roman city founded in Hispania, in 206 BC, and the birthplace of emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Today you explore it outdoors in Santiponce, about 9 km from Seville: cobbled streets, houses with mosaics and, above all, its amphitheatre, one of the largest in the Roman Empire, with a capacity of around 25,000 spectators.
It’s a long walk with little shade: bring water, a hat and comfortable footwear, especially in the hotter months.
