Our two-day trip to Doñana National Park will begin on the morning of the first day, with our guide picking you up at your accommodation in Seville or the surrounding area. The departure time will depend on the time of year and the animal movements our guides have observed in the days before your visit.
The first stop on this exciting tour will be the wetland area in the northern part of the Doñana Natural Park. There we will enjoy a unique landscape where rice fields and hundreds of birds come together in one of the most important marshes in continental Europe. The Guadalquivir and Guadiamar rivers are the main shapers of the terrain and the source of water for the marshland and rice paddies.
We will continue along the northern area of Doñana National Park until we reach El Rocío village. A unique village of traditional marshland houses, with sandy streets where residents ride horses and where time seems to have stood still.
After a walk through its streets, we will reach the hermitage, the centre of the world-famous Rocío pilgrimage. Inside it houses the famous Virgen del Rocío. Each year close to a million pilgrims and devotees gather here, making it one of the most important and notable religious displays of devotion in the world.
We will leave the village of El Rocío to continue exploring other ecosystems of Doñana. Our next stop will be the Palacios del Acebrón and the Rocina stream area, where we will enjoy a circular trail on which we will explain the main features of a gallery forest. At the end of the trail, it will be time for a short break to enjoy the local gastronomy at one of the most distinctive bars or restaurants in the area.
Our next stop will be Matalascañas beach. At over 30 km, the Doñana beach is the longest unspoilt beach in Spain. We will learn about the plant and animal species that live there, and also about the formation process of its unique moving dunes. If the weather allows, we can enjoy a refreshing swim at the end of the afternoon. We will then return to El Rocío, where you can enjoy free time and settle into your rural accommodation before enjoying a good dinner at one of the village's bars or restaurants.
The next morning, after breakfast, we will resume our trip, visiting other spots and ecosystems of Doñana. We will stop at the Palacio del Acebuche , where for years a project to conserve the Iberian lynx, the most endangered feline on the planet, has been carried out.
We will take a tour of the most wooded restricted area of the National Park, where we will have the chance to see some of the large mammals that live in Doñana. After enjoying the morning, we will have a delicious lunch and a final rest before heading back to Seville with a thousand and one unforgettable memories of an exciting getaway to Doñana.
Remember that if you only have one day to visit Doñana, you can do so with our one-day visit to the national park. In any case, if you have any questions, we will be happy to help.
