Granada is a must on any trip through Andalusia. The key is to plan your visit to the Alhambra in advance; the rest (the Albaicín, the Sacromonte and the tapas) is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace.
What to do
- Alhambra and Generalife: buy your tickets well in advance
- Albaicín and the San Nicolás Viewpoint at sunset
- Sacromonte and its caves
- Cathedral and Royal Chapel, where the Catholic Monarchs are buried
- Tapas hopping: in many bars the tapa is included with your drink
If it rains
- Parque de las Ciencias
- Cathedral and Royal Chapel
- Arab baths (hammam) in the centre
- Alhambra Museum, in the Palace of Charles V
Getting around and taxis
- The centre is best explored on foot, although there are some steep hills
- City minibuses that go up to the Alhambra and the Albaicín
- Light rail and taxis
Tips
- Alhambra tickets sell out: book as soon as you know your date
- Sierra Nevada is less than an hour away
- Comfortable footwear: the Albaicín is all hills and cobblestones
